Colossians 3:23-24 “Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for men, since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving.”

“Do it heartily” means to perform your duties “wholeheartedly, doing the best job you can with all your strength. Do your job well, whatever it is. You will not be judged by the other man’s job. You will be judged by what you did with the talents God gave you.

Verses 24: “Reward of the inheritance”. The Lord ensures the believer that he will receive a just, eternal compensation for his efforts (Rev. 20:12-13), even if his earthly boss or master does not compensate fairly (verse 25).

This was my favorite verse in all of the jobs and places I worked over the years. In nearly every location – from the Air Force in Belgium until I retired recently with my present employer- I started out as the only Black with the lowest seniority and a Christian. Need I say more. At times I felt as though I was deliberately being ‘thrown in the fire’. Sometimes though it was like throwing ‘brer Rabbit in the briar patch’. These two verses got me through. Whether I had to sweep a floor or perform quantitative test in the Air Force lab or crawl under a filthy machine to exchange a gear box and replace hydraulic lines or a robot base, I performed EVERY TASK as though I was doing it unto the Lord. Thank you JESUS!!!!!
